My wife was already working in financial services when I got my first real look at what this industry could be. Something about it stuck. I came from the rent-to-own world, which taught me plenty about how people make decisions under financial pressure, and when the opportunity came to make a real difference in people's financial lives rather than just transact through them, I took it and never looked back.
What keeps me here, more than two decades later, is the moment a client says something they never expected to say. "I never thought I'd actually be able to retire and enjoy my days." I hear versions of that more than you'd think, and it never gets old. My job is to help people get to that moment, and then help them figure out what comes next. I always tell clients that retirement should be something you're moving toward, not just something you're running away from. If you don't know what that next chapter looks like yet, that's okay. We figure it out together.
My days are spent in client meetings, reviewing portfolios, and building plans. The work is never exactly the same twice, which suits me fine. People come to me with real concerns, real families, and real stakes, and I take that seriously.
Outside the office, I've been married to my wife Dawn for nearly four decades. We have a son and a daughter, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter who I suspect will have me wrapped around her finger for the rest of my life. Our goldendoodle Bentley occasionally makes the commute with me, which the office is better for. I'm also a deeply enthusiastic golfer with a game that consistently humbles me, though I've made peace with the fact that I always get my money's worth on the course.
